An invaluable swatching tool, and a great bargain! September 4, 2009 Chris Hanner (Snellville, GA United States) 38 out of 38 found this review helpful
I purchased a set of these 40" long circular needles because there were gaps in my needle collection and I love the magic loop technique for anything for which it can be used (socks, sleeves, hats, mittens etc.). I also prefer knitting sweaters in the round. and you really need a long circ for that.
I started off using the US size 3 on some cashmere socks in progress and was not happy with the cords at first. The cord material is VERY flexible and hollow but made of a somewhat "sticky" plastic rather than the harder (and less flexible) cords used on other brands of circs. I used some talcum powder to tone down the cord's grab, and scooting the stitches around the magic loop went better. The cord was also less grabby when I tested the needles with a regular wool yarn and then a cotton yarn. Guess the inexpensive needle and the expensive cashmere yarn were "incompatible"?? Too much of a culture shock? :)
I'm now using the size 9s for sweater sleeves using a wool/cotton blend yarn. I really love the smoothness of the needles themselves, and the shape of the tips has more point than is common with other brands of bamboo needles. This pointy-ness will come in handy as I'll be knitting a lace panel with some nupps on this sweater. This yarn, while still not absolutely gliding over the cord, slips along easily enough now that I'm used to the feel of it, and I find that I really love the extreme flexibility of the cord. The cord is never coiling, poking me in the stomach, or otherwise getting in the way.
I'm really glad I bought this entire set. The price per needle can't be beat and it gives me the ability to swatch to my heart's content. The above-mentioned sweater was supposed to be knit on size 7 needles. I'm a tight knitter so I automatically went to a size 8 for the first swatch. Turns out I needed the 9 and it was so great to have that size right there waiting for me. Even if you don't love these needles enough to knit an entire sweater on them, they are invaluable as a swatching tool. Once you figure out what size you need, THEN you can buy an expensive Addi to knit the project.
great assortment of needles May 13, 2009 lavig81 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is a get set of needles for the price. The cord is very fexible and there isn't any cord memory. These needles are ideal for anyone who is a fan of the magic circle method.
COST SAVINGS AND QUALITY OF PRODUCT February 24, 2010 Lucille Maraschiello (TONAWANDA, NY, US) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I immediately knit with size 0 and size 15 needles and found them to be excellent to work with. The bamboo is very smooth. I cannot believe the price savings. For the cost of the package of 15 sizes of needles, with that same cost you cannot purchase two circular needles in a store!!!
I love these Circs March 7, 2010 K. L. Stone (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Okay, I am a reboot knitter having left it when all my children started arriving. Now that that is done I am back to knitting. Well, as any knitter knows children love to play and experiment with you needles and mine had gone the way or Star Wars and other sword fighting along with digging in the dirt and other sundry misuses. So I was looking to dive in and needed a fast bulk of all the needle sizes.
The cost was daunting until I found these and they are wonderful. Soft cables and soft smooth points. I have made many a snood, cap, and now working on leg warmers. I use the magic loop method and these are perfect. Only one problem, I need another set. This time my children found them but are actually all knitting with them! So in the coming weeks I will be purchasing yet another set.
Thank you for this item amazon, now we can all sit and knit together myself and all four of my girls. Well, and two boys....
